McLaren 540C Coupé joins the Sports Series

The second entry in McLaren’s Sports Series is fitted with a 3.8-liter turbocharged V8, producing 540ps and 540Nm

McLaren has unveiled the second entry in its Sports Series range. The 540C Coupé, due to be revealed this week at the Shanghai Motor Show, completes the two-car line-up, alongside the 570S Coupé.

Described by the OEM as the most attainable McLaren yet, power is delivered through the rear wheels via a 7-speed seamless shift gearbox (SSG). The new car produces 540ps and 540Nm and, aided by its low weight, sees the 0-100km/h sprint completed in 3.5 seconds, 0-200km/h in 10.5 seconds, and tops out at 320km/h.

Powered by a mid-mounted 3.8-liter turbocharged V8, the 540C Coupé is the fourth McLaren to be unveiled in 2015, marking the latest step in a marked increase in the OEM’s range offering. Peak output of 540ps arrives at 7,500rpm, with maximum torque of 540Nm available from 3,500-6,500rpm. The vehicle will also offer stop/start

The 540C Coupé achieves 11.08l/100km on the EU combined cycle, and records CO2 emissions figures of 258g/km.
