Building the Bloodhound: video

A high-speed look at the supersonic car, which produces the thrust of approximately 180 F1 cars

 

In 2016, the team behind the Bloodhound supersonic car will attempt to break the land speed record by achieving speeds of 1,000mph (1,609km/h) on The Hakskeen Pan in South Africa.

The vehicle – which is powered by a Rolls-Royce EJ200 jet engine from a Eurofighter Typhoon, a cluster of Nammo hybrid rockets and a 558ps supercharged Jaguar V8 engine – generates 135,000bhp (136,880ps), and is currently being assembled at the Bloodhound Technical Centre in Bristol, UK. The team has released a video showing elements of the vehicle’s construction, which you can see above.

This summer, the Bloodhound will undergo UK runway testing at relatively low speeds of approximately 320km/h, before being transferred to South Africa for high-speed testing at up to 1,290km/h. Data will be collated and analyzed before the team returns to South Africa in 2016 for the world record attempt.
