Mechanical design engineer (Cubewano)

About Cubewano:
Cubewano designs, develops, tests and manufactures small, high quality internal combustion engines for UAV and ground power applications, with power ranging from 2HP to 40HP. We work with major international clients to not only supply standard products but also produce bespoke designs that meet the individual requirements for their appliances or vehicles. This “made to measure” approach means that the engine’s suitability is assured and that we are able to consistently lead the field in technological advancements. This has resulted in us being awarded the Birmingham Post Business Award in Manufacturing, Science and Technology, having been recognised as the leader in innovation in the region.

The Opportunity:
At Cubewano we employ a cross functional team environment, which means our new recruit will be seeing projects through from initial concept, design, manufacturing, inspection, assembly, testing and finally delivery and support to the customer. We are therefore looking for a talented and versatile Mechanical Design Engineer who will undertake a varied and hands on role, with key areas of responsibility including the following:

1. Package design of engine installations in vehicles
2. Mechanical design of small items such as fuel pumps mechanisms etc.
3. Tolerance of such designs for machining
4. Materials selection.
5. Modification to current designs under the guidance of the design manager
6. Creation and modification of manufacturing drawings
7. Design and detailing of components for sensible cost manufacturing
a. Machined components
b. Sheet metal
c. Castings
d. Injection mouldings
8. Design and detailing of wiring harnesses and electrical systems
9. Overseas travel to assist with delivery and support to customers as required

Candidate Requirements:
Our ideal candidate will possess a degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) and will have gained at least 3 years of relevant design experience within an Aerospace or Automotive industry. You will have extensive experience of having used SolidWorks CAD and Microsoft Office packages. A bonus would also be able to use PDM WEnterprise.

You will be self motivated with excellent time management skills and proven experience of effectively working to project deadlines. You will be joining a small close knit and highly motivated team, so you must be confident in quickly integrating yourself and being able to have a positive contribution from day one.
