Mercedes-Benz unveils its revamped G-Class

The all-new G-Class makes its public debut at the Detroit auto show in G550 form. Completely redeveloped and fitted with a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo gasoline engine offering 427ps and 450 lb-ft of torque at 2,000rpm to 4,750rpm, despite near-identical looks to its predecessor plenty has changed for the Mercedes-Benz SUV.

Senior Engineer Specialist - Electronics (Volvo Penta)

Chesapeake, Virginia, USA

Salary: Competitive

Core Responsibilities:
• Serves as a full performance engineer in one or two responsibility areas with responsibility requiring ingenuity or originality
• Performs design, testing/validation and/or development projects within area of assignment: Emphasis is placed on accuracy, accountability/ownership, adherence to formal internal and external standards, procedures and processes, and accurate, acceptable documentation and report writing
• Assures compliance with all applicable marine regulations relating to his/her area of responsibility
• Represent Volvo Penta of the Americas in system group meetings within Volvo and with external companies
• Update specifications for service tools. As engine parameters/functions change, the requirements of the tools need defined, communicated, and validated
• Maintain gas calibration roadmap for use by VPA service
• Participate in Gasoline engine design meetings where engine controller, ignition, power, fuel, and vessel control systems are defined
• Accept final responsibility for engine wiring harness function and design. Specify layout and pinout. Review and release harness drawings

Skills and Knowledge Required:
• Knowledge and experience working with the Volvo product documentation systems and product development systems
• Minimum 5 years technical experience working with marine engines and transmissions
• Bilingual (English/Swedish), preferred
• Well-developed strategic planning and decision making skills at the senior level
• Demonstrated leadership of multifaceted business functions requiring program and process development and deployment
• Outstanding analytic skills and business management skills
• Effective communication skills and ability to interface with multiple leadership levels
• Strong administrative and general business skills
• Strong knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Products (Power Point, Excel, etc.)
• Good familiarity with and able to apply concepts related to the following:
o SAE datalink communication specifications (J1587, J1939) and NMEA2000
o ISO 15765
o ABYC recommended practices concerning electrical systems and controls.
o EMC and environmental issues related to electronic applications
o Distributed control systems
o UML and object-oriented programming
o Able to apply standard concepts and practices of electrical and electronic design
o Able to develop simple microcontroller applications and implement them in hardware and software
o Able to diagnose and solve problems related to interfacing with sensors and mechatronic components
o Able to develop detailed specifications for the design and testing of electronic components and systems, using standard Microsoft Office tools
o Ability to capture and analyze CAN data
o Ability to capture and analyze DC and AC signals, sensor data, control data, etc.
o Ability to understand and define interfaces with 3rd party instrumentation, displays, gauges, etc.
• Should have working knowledge of basic 4-stroke cycle gasoline engine

Education and Experience:
• BS degree in Engineering; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s Degree preferred
• Minimum 3 years of progressive marine/automotive experience, or a minimum of 6 years of applicable progressive marine/automotive experience

Other Requirements:
• Requires out-of-town travel; including international travel (15%)
