This is a new role for an experienced Mechanical Engineer/Project Leader with a proven track record in the automotive industry specialising in high volume manufacturing. With experience in new product introduction, the ability to assess, plan and drive projects through from start to completion is essential, whilst working closely with partners and SQA. Reporting to the Head of Product Engineering, you will be experienced in co-ordinating and driving engineering teams forward whilst liaising with all partners, developers and procurement to ensure KPI’s and financial targets are met.
A high level of reporting and presenting skills is essential as is the ability to train and develop a team of engineers. You will be a natural problem solver with the ability to present your findings and propose solutions confidently with all levels of external and internal colleagues.

Objectives & key activities
Conduct engineering assessments of new Low Carbon technology developed by UK based technology developers
Implement and use tools such as DFA, DFM, QFD, DFMEA and DVP&R to ensure right first time product development
Read, interpret and analyse supplied drawings and CAD models for engineering office
Guide junior members of staff and other team members
Liaise with collaborators, partners, technology developers and suppliers
Work closely with Cost Estimators and Engineering team to allow work throughput
Generation of reports as required for Project and Management meetings.
Revision control of information supplied and maintenance of Bills of Materials etc.
Support production preparation to ensure smooth production ramp-up.
Develop and train both experienced and graduate engineers with a view to building a solid engineering department
Document process and engineering know-how to benefit future projects
Required Knowledge Skills
Automotive New Product Introduction process and Design & Development activities
Low to medium volume manufacturing techniques as well as high volume manufacturing techniques
Experience of building close working relationships internally and with suppliers and customers.
Ability to use industry standard CAD software to interrogate models supplied
IT literate (competent user of MS products e.g. Excel)
Education & Experience
Experience in OE Automotive or Automotive Tier 1 supplier, preferably in an electro-mechanical environment.
Engineering Degree or equivalent
Good communication skills to deal with people of all levels
Willingness to travel both nationally and internationally at reasonable notice
