McLaren details the 4.0-liter V8 Senna

Ahead of it public debut at the Geneva International Motor Show next month, McLaren has released further information on the Senna. Fitted with a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 – McLaren’s most powerful IC engine ever produced for a road car – the limited release hypercar will develop 800ps and 800Nm.

Ford Ranger returns to the USA with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine


Fitted with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine taken from the Focus RS, the 2019 Ford Ranger marks the OEM’s return to America’s mid-size truck segment. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, Ford promises torque comparable to a V6 and the efficiency of a four-cylinder.

Embedded Powertrain Control Software Engineer(Volvo)

Position Description

Volvo Group Trucks Technology, Powertrain Engineering is seeking a Software Engineer to work closely with the local team, as well as the global team, to develop control strategies for the engine and emission after treatment control systems for heavy duty, medium duty and hybrid engine applications. This position will be based in Hagerstown, Maryland and will require occasional domestic and international travel.

The successful candidate should be an engineer with at least 3 years of experience in system modeling and software development, as well as an understanding for the system breakdown. A solid understanding of the physical behavior of the engine and exhaust aftertreatment system and their connection to the control systems, including simulation experience is required. Knowledge of onboard diagnostics and how it relates to the systems is also a desired competence.

Since the candidate will be a communication cornerstone in the local and global Volvo community, they need to enjoy interacting with people of diverse cultures and organizational belonging. An appreciation for common global solutions is required. Volvo Powertrain provides engines for the Volvo Group, which makes it important to keep global solutions for as many applications as possible. This strategy will limit the number of variants to verify and maintain. The successful candidate must also realize the importance of customer, production, and quality
requirements within product development.

Core responsibilities

  • Breakdown and document high level requirements into control strategy requirements
  • Requirement analysis and balancing by joint reviews, simulations and/or selected tests
  • Analyze and provide feedback on verification test procedures
  • Foster Control strategy competence within the Hagerstown engineering team
  • Provide a local interface to the product development organization especially regarding control strategies
  • Implementation of control strategies (SW development) from software requirements
  • Contribute to the development and execution of automated system tests
  • Ensure fulfillment of project design requirements as they pertain to assigned and related functions
  • Provide input toward SFMEA analyses within the Controls project team
  • Contribute to system engineering efforts on the complete Powertrain
  • Understand and execute global Powertrain Controls Systems Engineering processes


  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field required; Master of Science preferred
  • Minimum of three years of experience in software development or system modeling for heavy or medium duty diesel applications
  • Deep understanding of the physical behavior of the engine and exhaust after-treatment system and their connection to the control systems
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical and business matters with individuals from across the organization in various settings
